The client area password you chose is stored in a one way MD5 hash format, but the passwords automatically generated & assigned to hosting accounts have to be stored in a reversable encrypted format so that they can be included in welcome emails sent following account setup, and to be able to provide the automatic login links you see within our the client area.
It is a one-way encryption and if you change the password for your user in the shell it will no longer correspond to the one displayed in the client area.
